Still learning and playing with watercolour. This little image came to mind and I decided to experiment. Here are a few progress sketches ... the first pencil sketch was so light I had to darken it a bit in photoshop or it would have been far too faint to be seen clearly here:
The most important discovery? That the quality of the paper makes a huge difference. I used a Pink Pig Black coloured Bockingford Watercolour A4 LANDSCAPE sketchbook with 300gsm paper, and what a joy it was. Everything seemed so much simpler and, as long as I waited for the paint to dry, I could keep adding layers without the paper warping or tearing.
Thoroughly enjoyed myself. I do think the final painting might be sweet on Christmas cards and invitations, don't you?
